Thông qua việc phân tích khung pháp lý quốc tế, pháp luật ASEAN và của các nước trong khu vực Tiểu vùng sông Mekong, bài nghiên cứu làm sáng tỏ về cách thức mà pháp luật quốc tế có thể bảo vệ các quyền của người di cư do biến đổi khí hậu tại khu vực này. Từ đó, bài viết đề xuất một số kiến nghị các giải pháp pháp lý cho vấn đề di cư và tái định cư trong bối cảnh thích ứng với biến đổi khí hậu tại khu vực tiểu vùng sông Mekong.
