Theo ước tính của Tổ chức Y tế thế giới, có hơn 80% dân số thế giới đang dựa vào tri thức truyền thống về y học cổ truyền để chăm sóc sức khỏe. Điều này khẳng định tầm quan trọng của tri thức truyền thống trong lĩnh vực khoa học, kinh tế và có ý nghĩa về tinh thần rất lớn cho cộng đồng ở mỗi quốc gia. Vì vậy, việc bảo hộ tri thức truyền thống được các quốc gia trên thế giới và Việt Nam đặc biệt chú trọng. Bài viết tiếp cận các chính sách bảo hộ quyền sở hữu trí tuệ đối với tri thức truyền thống trên thế giới, qua đó đưa ra các đề xuất cho Việt Nam trong việc bảo hộ đối tượng tri thức truyền thống hiện nay.
